Gothic Metal
Avrupa da gothic metalin kisa tarihi
Paradise Lost 1991 de "Gothic" albümünü çikardiginda, kimse bu ikinci albümlerinin bizleri yepyeni bir türle Gothic Metal le tanistiracagini
bilmiyordu. Bu albümde "Paradise Lost", doom ve death metallerden elementler kullanip bunlara Nick Holmes un erkeksi ve Sarah Marrion un duru
seslerini eklemisti. Ingiltere ye kalsaydi kadin vokaller fazla ilgi görmediginden bu hikaye burada biterdi elbet. My Dying Bride ve Anathema
kadin vokalsiz bu isi sürdürenlerin basini çektiler. (Arada Sarah diye birini kullandiysalar da su anda kimse nerede oldugunu bilmemekte bu
kisinin..)
Avrupa`nin diger ülkelerinde durum farkliydi tabii ki. 1992 de Hollandali grup "The Gathering" Bart Smits`in kükredigi ve Marike Groot`un
sakidigi ilk albümleri "Always..."i yayinladi. 1995`teki üçüncü albümleri "Mandylion"la bir devrim gerçeklestirdiler: Bart kovuldu ve
"Anneke Van Giersvergen" tahti ele geçirdi.
Ayni yil, "Theatre of Tragedy" adli gruP ...
Gothic Metal (Goth Metal de denir) doom metal, heavy metal ve orjinal gothic tarzinin arasindaki geçis gibidir. 1990 larin sonunda Avrupa ve A.B.D. topraklarinda ortaya çikan bu tarzi aslinda kategorize etmek çok zordur. Bazi dinleyiciler ve müzisyenler, metalin konsepti hakkinda çok katidirlar; onlar için belli bir tür ve o türlerin alt kollari vardir. Fakat bazi dinleyiciler ve müzisyenler de böyle ayrimlara sonuna kadar karsi çikarlar. Metal ezgileri barindirmayan türlerden etkilenip, onlari metal ile harmanlayan bir türdür gothic metal...
Aslinda Gothic metal; Celtic Frost, bir kaç yil sonra Paradise Lost ve Theatre of Tragedy gibi, bayan vokal, melodik klavye ve agir doom riffleri kullanan gruplardan evrimlesmistir. Type O Negative, My Dying Bride ve Anathema gibi gruplar da temel olarak insani ürperten klavye ezgileri ve agir hüzünlü havasiyla dikkat çeker. Bayan vokalleri ve death metal girtlagiyla metal tarihinin ilk gothic sarkisi olarak Paradise Lost un Gothic albümündeki ayni isimli "Gothic" gösterilir.
